Here's an example of how consistency is elevated to a cardinal virtue. I think growing up in a mostly conservative environment exposed me to the "integrity = consistency" idea early on. Bachmann insists the larger political stage won't mean a new, less-provocative style. "I've been consistent, nothing but consistent," she said. "I don't say things for political value. I'm authentic in what I say."

Well, if the post implied it was often, that’s an exaggeration, it’s true. And I’d say you put good effort into finding your own faults – which I can’t always say for myself, and which is why I appreciate (albeit sometimes grudgingly) your corrections.

And as to the insight SursumCorda mentioned: I recently scanned all the contributions I’d written for our high school newspaper. The memory of those was what had prompted me to think that my creative juices had peaked back then; reading them made me think that perhaps only output had peaked, not quality…

I’m not quite sure what to say, but I feel I must say something. I would like to say I don’t point out Stephan’s faults nearly as often as this post implies, but I’m not sure I can get away with that. I know I should be looking harder at my own faults rather than pointing out improvements to others – and I’m working on it. It’s no excuse, but the more I respect someone the more I am surprised by faults AND the more likely I am to say something since I believe they are strong and humble enough to take it in a beneficial way. Sorry for when I go beyond my Christian duty, and thanks for being patient with me!

Admirable, moving, and humbling. Thank you. "I write this knowing that in a few years Iâ€ll look back and wonder how full of myself I was when writing this. " Oh, how often do I do that! Looking back at one's earlier writing can be (and often is) very embarrassing. For some reason that doesn't stop me from continuing to expose myself to that danger, however.
