I prefer “cavort” for the more open stressed vowel, but I could also just be prejudiced by habit. I guess you could have checked before gifting it to us, but then the kids might have missed out on the fun they’re having. In short: thank you again for those books!

I know how frustrating it is when they change the words to familiar things. Ask me about the way they’ve altered old hymns. On second thought, don’t. But since I never learned “do a dance,” I much prefer “cavort.” It seems as if they may have at one point decided “cavort” was too uncommon a word, which of course is one reason I like it. 🙂

Ach! “cavort” in a bog! I forgot the wording changed. In our kids’ book it was “do a dance” in the bog. I think I read somewhere that it was originally “cavort”, was changed to “do a dance”, and now it is back to “cavort”. However, since we spent countless hours saying, “do a dance” that is what I prefer. (Maybe I don’t have the neuro-plasticity that I need).
