{"id":155,"date":"2008-06-24T17:04:49","date_gmt":"2008-06-24T16:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.morbidcornflakes.ch\/thduggies_blog\/?p=155"},"modified":"2008-06-24T17:04:49","modified_gmt":"2008-06-24T16:04:49","slug":"again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thduggie.com\/thduggies_blog\/2008\/again","title":{"rendered":"Again!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It seems like whenever I&#8217;m proud of making reasonable progress in writing a blog entry, <a title=\"Internet Explorer\" href=\"http:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Merde\" target=\"_blank\">Internet Explorer<\/a> decides it ought to slow me down by screeching to a halt and painfully reminding me of why I ought to save my post every sentence.\u00c2\u00a0 (Saved.)\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, after Stefan and Masami&#8217;s wedding celebration and a shortcut to the Zurich airport I boarded my flight to Taiwan, with a changeover in Hong Kong (save).\u00c2\u00a0 I barely made it to my connecting flight to Taiwan (save).\u00c2\u00a0 On that flight, I only ate one of my dumplings in order not to break my intended 16-hour fast too egregiously, prompting my seat neighbour to ask if I didn&#8217;t like dumplings (save).\u00c2\u00a0 Thus began a conversation in which he told me about the <a title=\"PengHu Islands\" href=\"http:\/\/wikitravel.org\/en\/Penghu\" target=\"_blank\">PengHu archipelago<\/a> floating by beneath our window,\u00c2\u00a0about\u00c2\u00a0the <a title=\"Kenting National Park\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kenting_National_Park\" target=\"_blank\">Kenting national park<\/a> which apparently was threatened with removal from some list of national parks due to overcrowding, but which nevertheless is of extraordinary beauty, and about the eastern side of Taiwan and its steep cliffs (save).\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My heavy suitcase didn&#8217;t make the short transfer in Hong Kong, so not only did I not have to pay Cathay for excess baggage, but they had to bring my heavy suitcase to my hotel (save).\u00c2\u00a0 I also found myself confirmed in my decision not to use a Carnet this time, which I had decided mainly because Taiwan is not a signatory to the Carnet ATA (perhaps because China is) and I would have had to fill in about ten pages of repetitive information (save).\u00c2\u00a0 In this situation it would also have forced me to either wait around for my suitcase (and leave my business partner waiting) or write a valid power of attorney on the fly (save).\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I got to the hotel, checked in, told them to just keep the second suitcase until morning, and went to bed (save).\u00c2\u00a0 In the morning my business partner, his colleague, and his daughter picked me up, and we walked a couple hundred meters to a <a title=\"C'est bon Taipei\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cestbon.com.tw\/~cestbon\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">fusion restaurant<\/a> so modern it came with slouching sullen-faced staff and dishes like seared scallop with orange vinaigrette or asparagus cr\u00c3\u00a8me br\u00c3\u00bbl\u00c3\u00a9e (one could barely taste it, but trust me, <a title=\"Asparagus proof\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Asparagus#Asparagus_and_urine\" target=\"_blank\">I know it contained asparagus<\/a>) (save).\u00c2\u00a0 We combined lunch with business discussions and then departed to visit a customer of ours who wanted to discuss projects present and future and the <a title=\"Nanosurf on Mars -
