{"id":198,"date":"2009-09-16T17:54:46","date_gmt":"2009-09-16T16:54:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.morbidcornflakes.ch\/thduggies_blog\/?p=198"},"modified":"2009-09-16T17:54:46","modified_gmt":"2009-09-16T16:54:46","slug":"oh-dear-jimmy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thduggie.com\/thduggies_blog\/2009\/oh-dear-jimmy","title":{"rendered":"Oh dear Jimmy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;You lie!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Poor behaviour, certainly.\u00c2\u00a0 But if indeed the accusation is as ridiculous as people are trying to make it out to be, then surely a refutation (based on facts, not bald denial) should be a simple matter, and we could all move on.\u00c2\u00a0 Instead, we have former President Jimmy Carter weighing in on matter, proclaiming the remark racist, and many alleging a racist undercurrent that won&#8217;t tolerate a black president, an undercurrent that just broke to the surface with that outburst of Wilson&#8217;s.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Possible.\u00c2\u00a0 He may be a racist; he may not be; certainly Jimmy Carter has no corner on the judgment of that question.\u00c2\u00a0 Unfortunately, there was apparently plenty of racist mail to black politicians following the incident, which is a shame, because it gives credence to the claim that &#8220;You lie!&#8221; is racist sentiment.\u00c2\u00a0 I wouldn&#8217;t mind discussing that, if it didn&#8217;t also detract from the real issue: whether President Obama is correct in what he has said.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I give our president enough\u00c2\u00a0credit that I don&#8217;t think he is\u00c2\u00a0intentionally stating a falsehood.\u00c2\u00a0 I do think it is possible that he may be wrong, however sincerely he believes\u00c2\u00a0he isn&#8217;t, and that deserves to be examined.\u00c2\u00a0 It ought to be examined despite disrespectful heckling and regardless of the underlying motives of such heckling.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And let&#8217;s not forget that for about eight years <a title=\"Bush Lies T-shirt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cafepress.com\/scarebaby\/752480\" target=\"_blank\">BUSH LIES!
