{"id":254,"date":"2010-07-15T21:38:48","date_gmt":"2010-07-15T20:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.morbidcornflakes.ch\/thduggies_blog\/?p=254"},"modified":"2010-07-15T21:38:48","modified_gmt":"2010-07-15T20:38:48","slug":"dysfunctional-google-street-view-on-firefox","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thduggie.com\/thduggies_blog\/2010\/dysfunctional-google-street-view-on-firefox","title":{"rendered":"Dysfunctional Google Street View on Firefox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was using Firefox 3.5.x &#8211; don&#8217;t remember the version &#8211; and at one point noticed Google Street View didn&#8217;t work correctly.\u00c2\u00a0 I was able to drag the orange figure onto the map, and then there it would stand, like a human traffic cone, and nothing happened.\u00c2\u00a0 No photos.<\/p>\n<p>So I first installed 3.6.6, figuring there was a problem with Firefox that had been fixed in a more recent version.\u00c2\u00a0 No success.<\/p>\n<p>Then I googled &#8220;street view doesn&#8217;t work in firefox&#8221; and found <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"street view doesn't work in firefox\" href=\"http:\/\/support.mozilla.com\/en-US\/forum\/1\/433114\">this site<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 They suggested upgrading my flash player, which I did.\u00c2\u00a0 The installation completed 100%, but no success with Street View.Out of ideas, I switched to IE and tried Street View.\u00c2\u00a0 It told me that the flash player was outdated and needed an update, so I upgraded here, too.\u00c2\u00a0 And ta-dah, it worked!<\/p>\n<p>So, back to Firefox: I went to the Flash download page again and found instructions for downloading and installing with Firefox.\u00c2\u00a0 I added www.adobe.com to the list of sites that are allowed to install add-ons (Tools\/Options\/Security) and for good measure to the list of sites that are allowed to generate Popups (Tools\/Options\/Applications).\u00c2\u00a0 The installation looked a bit different, but it displayed the same message of a successful installation and again did nothing to fix Street View.<\/p>\n<p>Aha, I thought, I bet it&#8217;s my <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Flashblock\" href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/de\/firefox\/addon\/433\/\">Flashblock<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I disabled it, restarted Firefox, and ta-dah, Street View works!\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know who (Google, Adobe, Mozilla, or the Flashblock programmers) is to blame, but Flashblock 1.5.13 seems not to work right with the current Street View and Firefox and Flash 10.1.<\/p>\n<p>So, although I liked it (especially for youtube playback control), I&#8217;m turning Flashblock off for now, but if I find I don&#8217;t use Street View enough, and the instant playback on youtube bugs me enough, I&#8217;ll turn it back on.\u00c2\u00a0 I wish they&#8217;d fix this situation, though, so that for Street View I&#8217;d get the same &#8220;play&#8221; symbol Flashblock usually displays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was using Firefox 3.5.x &#8211; don&#8217;t remember the version &#8211; and at one point noticed Google Street View didn&#8217;t work correctly.\u00c2\u00a0 I was able to drag the orange figure onto the map, and then there it would stand, like a human traffic cone, and nothing happened.\u00c2\u00a0 No photos.
