Cheese Knife Holder

One of our wedding gifts was this set of Trudeau Cheese Knives.  It came in a clear plastic presenting box, which made it impractical to use them, so I thought I’d make something to present them and also keep them handy.  I took a picture of my cheese knife holder and sent it to Trudeau – let’s see if they react at all to it.  Anyway, exclusively on thduggie’s blog, here’s the cheese knife holder I made.  It keeps the knives at an angle (easier to grab) and keeps them from being bumped or jostled out (that’s what the top strip is for).

I decided to skip testing if the jostle-proof bar works under all conditions.

I can testify to both its beauty and its utility. It’s not the best thing Stephan produced (er, co-produced with Janet) while I was there, but lovely nonetheless.

Thanks, though I think it could be much lovelier with a more controlled production (and a bit of extra design would not hurt), which is why I sent it to Trudeau. I think something like it would sell in decent numbers along with the cheese knives.

Are you thinking of horror movies? That would probably fly well with the splatter-for-laughs crowd. They’re actually rather small – maybe five inches long – with a blade of half that.

Run, don’t walk, run straight to the patent office. This could be your first 4-hour work week project.

Thanks for the compliment, but I don’t think it’s patentable, because I have already published it and it is obvious to someone skilled in the art (i.e. lacks inventiveness from a patent law perspective). Additionally, I don’t think Trudeau wants it so badly that they’d pay me enough to cover the patent fees and what I’d have to pay a patent attorney.

But it’s good to keep that option in mind.
