Two Saturdays ago, Janet and I visited Alain in his Aargau home and after a dinner of delicious crèpes went to the 3×3 Bühne to see my friend Tobias perform his farewell concert with his band “Les Asonsörs.” (I’d link to them, but they have no home on the web.) They had also recorded their first CD, “Gelterkinden finden,” on the occasion of his departure. What a surprise for me to see that the one song on the CD was a song Tobias and I had written together – he the tune and I the lyrics, and that years ago. It is my privilege to post “Jede Loser isch e Blueser” online and be the first to offer “Les Asonsörs” temporary shelter. Because it’s catchy, I’m also posting the title track, “Gelterkinden finden” (composed by Rainer Berger). I hope you like their music – for purchase inquiries please contact d_vuilliomenet [at] bluewin.ch – and here are the lyrics I wrote back in university:
Jede Loser isch e Blueser
Griegt vom Läbe oft eins brätscht
Für ihn isch drum d’Wält abstruser
Und zum Lache as es dätscht
Jede Loser isch e Blueser
Und sy Seel isch voller Bügg
Macht sy Schicksal mol e Pfuuser
Nennt är s’truurig lächelnd Glügg
Jede Loser isch e Blueser
Oft verwundet, oft vrnarbt
Ab und zue trinkt är e Suuser
Und vrgisst denn as er darbt
Jede Loser isch e Blueser
Immer z’schpoot, immer nur knapp
Wie me unbegabte User
Stürzt em alls ungspeicheret ab
Jede Loser isch e Blueser
Griegt vom Läbe oft eins druff
Für ihn isch drum d’Wält konfuser
Trotzdäm git sy Härz nie uff
Jede Loser isch e Blueser
Und s’git meh as mänge maint
Müller, Meier und au Buser
Sin im Losertum vereint
Rather catchy, I’ll admit. Beyond that I have no expertise to say, but I expect the tune will be with me for the next few hours. As to the lyrics…how about a translation for us peons? I know poetry is very difficult to translate, but even a short summary of the ideas will do better than Babelfish’s best:
Each loose isch e Blueser Griegt of the Läbe often one brätscht for it isch therefore d’Wält more abstrusely and to puddle as it dätscht Each loose isch e Blueser And system Seel isch full Bügg Power system fate mol of e Pfuuser Är s’truurig smiling Glügg calls Each loose isch e Blueser Often wounded, often vrnarbt Off and zue drinks är e Suuser And vrgisst as it darbt Each loose isch e Blueser Always z’schpoot, only scarcely like ME user unbegabte Falls em universe ungspeicheret off Each loose isch e Blueser Griegt of the Läbe often one druff For it isch therefore konfuser Trotzdäm d’Wält git system Härz never uff Each loose isch e Blueser And meh as mänge s’git maint Mueller, Meier and outer Buser Sin in the Losertum unites
In Babelfish’s defense, I did tell it “German” — but it gave no better option. Come to think of it, I kind of like “more abstrusely and to puddle” and “Power system fate.”
By the way, the first “Gelterkinden finden” link takes me to a map, not a CD. But it does, indeed, find Gelterkinden, so maybe that was your intent.
Yes, the first link helps you find Gelterkinden. The second one takes you to the song.
As for the translation – well, you’ll have to wait at least a week. The short summary is that every loser is a blueser, or at least has good reason to sing the blues.
