The trouble is, “das Frühstück” is very rarely used as well. You’d only use it occasionally, such as “Das Frühstück hat mir geschmeckt.” In English, you’re right, the article gets dropped – but often replaced by a possessive, such as “I enjoyed my breakfast.” I’d tend to suggest just “breakfast” as well, but I’m not sure how much it matters. Perhaps duolingo can accept both?
